7 steps to a Healthy & Sexy Mouth
Your complete daily oral hygiene routine

We all know that dental health is essential to our overall wellbeing and caring for our gums is necessary to prevent other health issues. The primary action of brushing twice a day and flossing from time to time has become a standard for most people.
But what if we can take a few more steps to amp up the cleanliness of our mouth, making it very kissable as an extra benefit?

HERE IS MY ROUTINE:1- OIL PULLING (AM)First thing in the morning, Oil Pulling is one of the best ways to clean and moisturize our mouth from the buildup of toxins that occur while sleeping. Place one tablespoon of oil in your mouth, swish around and through your teeth for 10 to 20 minutes, then spit it in the garbage or compost as not to clog the drains. Rinse with warm water. Coconut, Sesame, and Sunflower oils are the most commonly used. Cardamom: Freshens the breath. | ![]() |

2- NETI POT OR NOSE SPRAY (AM)The nose and mouth are such close neighbors; I like to include this in my oral care steps. | ![]() |
3- FLOSSING (AM)Flossing is an essential part of our oral health. It reaches the edges of our teeth that our brush can’t get to, allowing the toothpaste’s active ingredients to go between our teeth and under our gums. | ![]() |
4- BRUSHING (AM & PM)A while ago, my dentist told me to use an electric toothbrush to ease the intensity of my brushing that was affecting my gums. I switched and loved the extra vibration and rotations while cleaning my teeth. Even with my new brush, I realized I was still putting too much pressure. My new mantra: Let the electric toothbrush do its thing. The time most dentists agree we should spend brushing our teeth is about 2 minutes. Starting from the back to give attention to these hard-to-reach areas is an excellent place to start, making sure to brush all sides of them. When you notice the bristles starting to fray and the color fading, it’s your cue to switch to a new brush. | ![]() |
5- TONGUE SCRAPING (AM & PM)Brushing your tongue is a quick step to clean it if you don’t have anything else, but scrapping is the way to go. It removes the extra particles, bacteria, and dead cells -including those that can cause bad breath- to prevent long-term buildup, which can eventually affect our overall health. Bonus: A clean pink tongue and the ability to improve our sense of taste. Tongue scrapers come in different metals and plastic. Personally, I prefer the copper-rounded ones; they last longer, some can go in the dishwasher, and they get the job nicely done. | ![]() |
6- SWISHING & GARGLING (AM & PM)After brushing and scraping, I like to swish the leftover toothpaste foam in my mouth with a little bit of running water and spit it out—the last step of my routine, more running water to gargle. With my head back, gargling allows me to catch all the extra residue from the Neti pot action. Spit it out. Done. I am not a fan of the alcohol-filled mouth wash. | ![]() |

A FEW NOTES & REMINDERS:Use a soft-bristled brush. The medium and firm ones can be abrasive to the enamel. Avoid brushing right after drinking or eating any citrus, as their acidity can damage the enamel. It is recommended to wait 30 to 60 minutes. Don’t over brush: too much brushing can damage our gums and teeth enamel. Twice a day is enough, with rinsing after each meal. If using a mouth wash containing fluoride, it is recommended to wait 30 minutes to absorb the active ingredients before eating or drinking. Clean all your tools, tool containers, and glass with boiling water and soap once a week for germ-free equipment. Instead of chewing gum to freshen your breath before a meeting or a kiss, consider chewing a few fennel or cardamom seeds for a natural refreshed mouth. | ![]() |
