From the time we get up in the morning to the moment we fall asleep at night, our senses are constantly bombarded with information that can leave us emotionally exhausted. Most of what comes our way is not by choice. What we see, touch, smell, hear, and taste...

A Closet Reset in 13 Steps!
How to customize and maximize your closet space - without leaving any marks
Leading busy lives and with so many hours in a day, it can be challenging to keep our home in order. What is often behind closed doors and out of sight can quickly become unorganized and chaotic.
One of these doors is our bedroom closet.
At some point in their life, most women will dream of a spacious and well-organized wardrobe closet, a place where everything has its place, and all can easily be accessed or put back efficiently, making their morning and night routine of dressing up a breeze.
Being a tenant, living in a new or newly minted building with strict damage policies can mean no holes in the walls bigger than a pin making it more difficult to achieve that fab custom-designed walk-in inspiration.
Here is an easy, low-cost way to customize and maximize your actual closet space.
Note: Before starting, decide how you want to customize your closet, what you want to add, and measure the inner space of it to help you purchase the right items, especially those pieces cut to fit.
#1 EMPTY SHELL
We can customize a blank canvas to our needs with non-permanent props to help us stay tidy and organize all our items.
#2 GRID SHELF/ ROD COMBO
Often, in a new rental apartment closet, all we get is this skimpy single narrow grid shelf/skinny rod combination.
#3 SHOE BAGS
These shoe bags are the perfect versatile storage items to add to any closet. They come in handy when the size of the bedroom does not allow a drawer unit on the floor. Choose some with a “hanger hook” at the top. Hang them at both rod ends close to the wall.
We love the nylon ones. They are easy to care for, and items slide easily in and out.
These bags, hanging from the rod, can carry more weight, so use them to store flat shoes, belts, scarves, gloves, and any heavier accessories.
#4 WIDER UPPER SHELF
To maximize the upper shelf surface, use a cut to fit melamine plank with a smooth finish, deeper than the original one. Place it over the grid shelf.
#5 LOWER BASE/SUPPORT
With the offcuts of the melamine planks, there is usually enough to get a few small pieces cut to measure that can be used as the base of the lower shelf. Here, only one was needed since there is already a baseboard around the inner closet. Measure your support pieces at the same height as the baseboard. No baseboard? Cut three parts: one for each side and one in the middle.
#6 LOWER SHELF
A large melamine plank, the width, and depth of the closet is placed on the baseboard and support pieces to double the storage space at the bottom.
You can use a white-colored edge bending on each unfinished side of the cut plank/pieces for an all-white finish.
Organize all your shoes and boots on the shelf and use the lower part to store some shoe boxes you don’t use as often.
#7 NEW SHELL
The new, improved canvas.
#8 HOOK ME
These sticky hooks are convenient for extra support with no residue or damage. They come in different weight capacities. The five pounds bath hooks are sturdier for closet support.
#9 MORE STORAGE
For extra storage and use of “dead space,” place three five-pound capacity stick-on hooks to the inside of each closet door and hook two more shoe bags.
The hooks can serve double duty: hang you sleeping mask and your robe, air out the bra you just wore today…
#10 ALMOST THERE
The extra shoe bags inside the doors provide easy-access storage for everyday light items.
Perfect for lingerie, tights and socks, swimwear, jewelry, hair accessories…
#11 BOXES COMPARTMENTS
These collapsible white nylon boxes are the perfect fit on the upper shelf for folded items like t-shirts and sweaters and some accessories like hats and bags. They come in various sizes to fit any space and can be stacked with a few layers for even more storage.
#12 SHINE ON THE LIGHT
Adding a motion sensor closet light at the top of the frame will help those early mornings and late nights search. These are magnetic and rechargeable.
